The Senses Poem by Lilibeth Apat

The Senses

If we only see the negative side of things, then what are eyes for?
If we only listen to bad things said about others, then what are ears for?
If we often utter words that would hurt,
if we say things that we don’t really mean, Then what are lips for?
If we only care for those who do us good,
if we only love those who can give us something in return,
then what is a heart for?

We should see the positive side, too, when others refuse to do so.
We should listen, really listen, when others fail to hear.
We should stop saying words that cut through others hearts,
We shouldn’t give in to lip-service.

We should care for those who need it the most,
We should love those whom others perceive to be unlovable,
God gave us eyes to see, ears to hear, lips to kiss and say wonderful things,
a heart that beats for love,
The least that we can do is put them to good use!
