The Shadow Poem by R.Benjamin Abate

The Shadow

It's hard to sleep when
Your shadow sneaks
Out at night

Getting drunk on whiskey
Breaking into houses
Stealing all the jewelry

Calling your ex-girlfriend
Telling her you're sorry
Saying, 'We should get married.'

Waking up with your hands tied
Wondering where the thief is
He must be hiding

You get your hands free
Search the house
For the thief

While your shadow leans
Against the wall
& Smokes a cigarette

Laughing like a ghost
That you chose
To forget
