The Shore

The life I had before
Was nothing short of boring—
I cried and begged for more
Till finally you came—

Now nothing is the same—
My door is held wide open
For anyone to see
What treats I have in store—

You broke my shield and shattered
My whole reality—
And anything that mattered
Was lost at sea—

Another time perhaps
We’ll fall into the traps—
But for now let’s be
Washed up on the shore—

Washed up on the shore—
The shore from days of yore—
When brave men fought and laughed—
Slaying in their armor—

A bygone age— the hordes—
The legions of barbarians—
Ladies and their Lords
Dancing in the courtyards—

A single broken shield—
A single broken shell—
Washed up on the shore—
The shore from days of yore—

I never thought I’d leave
The life I had before—
Then I met your eyes
And never looked away—

You are the shield that shines—
You are the shell that shimmers—
Your phantom image glimmers—
You cover my soft core—

And hereupon the shore
We shall remain—
A storybook for children—
Fantasy and lore…

Know'st thou not at the fall of the leaf
How the heart feels a languid grief
Laid on it for a covering,
And how sleep seems a goodly thing
