The Short War Poem by Sylvia Lukeman

The Short War

Rating: 5.0

He had left his wife and little ones
The call had been so strong.
The war would only short they had said
He was sure that he would not be long.

Oh he was right that soldier
That soldier so young and brave.
For him the war was very short
Too soon he lay in his grave.

His wife and little ones were left alone
No daddy to sing them a song.
All because the war was short
And he knew that he would not be long.

War is a terrible thing. I am the father of two U.S. Marines and we are always on pins and needles. Poem full of pathos and sadness.
