The Sliver Poem by Edmund V. Strolis

The Sliver

Rating: 5.0

Funny thing these memories are
Thousands of days come and go
The lifelong highway rolls on
Distance blurs and time gets hazy

Along that road a bump, a rut
Or stretches of smooth sailing
Memories here and there linger
So very few for such a journey

One of the memories that remain
When so many miles are forgotten
In my mind's eye a sliver burns
A view in darkness, a door in passing

There in the solitude of your grief
I saw you seated upon your bed
Head in hands your muffled pain
Memories of life's darkest hour

That sliver of a door frozen forever
Impossible for me to now enter
A scar in time there to remind me
Just how small a man can be.

Out of a myriad of memories, some stand out, the memories of life-changing moments. It takes little to make or break things. Some moments are frozen forever in memory for they carry the burden of loss or regret. A very profound write. A10

hey, edmund! i also find it interesting and puzzling why some memories remain, stand out, from all else- as you say in the first three stanzas. i explore this in two poems, a college memory and island chain. -glen

Thousands of days come and go like life runs in highway. Many memories remain within are really very funny. There in the solitude of grief still hopes of happiness shine more. An amazing poem is shared here with wise views...10
