The Small Things - Poem by Aanusha Ghosh

Take solace in the small things in life
The sweet pine-scented breeze in spring
The December wind that cuts like knife
The dewdrops on a hatchling's wing

Take comfort in the little things today
The sunlight glittering on the frost
The cobwebs that on those old books sway
The jolt in your step that you have lost

Take heart in half-forgotten lore
Stories your grandmamma would tell
As she watched you toddle on the floor
And the pride that made her bosom swell

There's happiness in simplicity
An unencumbered, boundless joy
In singing that old song or ditty
That you were once taught as a boy
