Poet's Notes about The Poem
The sonnet focuses on the thin shred of hope that is left when everything else is lost. The first quatrain shows how even a person drowned in pain has the hope and strength to live. The second quatrain depicts the excessive torment caused by fits of nostalgia.
Third quatrain gives the real cause as for how the pain emerges. The disrespect to the almighty and his means to guide us on the path of effective living makes us experience his wrath, in the form of misery and vulnerability.
The concluding couplet defines pain as something that lies between fear and mercy. The fire of all the negative emotions can be put out by having respect and faith in God’s ways. One must have hope to become a better person and also make this world a better place to live in.
