The Sound Of Fear Poem by Carsten Thomsen

The Sound Of Fear

With lingering memory
of the sound of fear
in the voices of men
Screeching tires
A soul's assent
Crumbling metal
and bone
I came
to my senses
Trembling
Broken
Sedated
Incapacitated
but breathing

You came to see me
as I slept
and though gone
when I awoke
my thoughts
were still of you

Even today as I
find myself
still breathing
still dreaming
you here or
me there
back in that
car
and the sound of fear
in the voices of men
Screeching tires
A soul's assent
Crumbling metal
and bone and
a second chance
