The Spirit Of The Wild - Poem by Dilantha Gunawardana

Coasting on prairies
With an august mane glistening
Even on sunlit horizons

Roaming free in a wilderness
With no palisades or pickets
Slave to no master
With no saddle on back

Bohemians of the wild west
Traversing a barren land
With only a trickle from the heavens
And a paltry sprinkle from the earth

If you listen hard enough
In the purity of silence
You may just hear the spirit of the wild

A mustang’s gallop……….

Poet's Notes about The Poem

Trying to make the spirit of the wild tangible
