The Streetlight Shines Poem by Roneece Pieters

The Streetlight Shines

Rating: 4.5

To want something and not have it.
Is love at its greatest peak.
Instead of professing itself.
It rather play hide and seek.
Temptation should be outlawed
for all the crimes it caused.
Adam and eve.
Taste of passion.
The apple off the tree.
To be or not to be?
The moment is so ripe w/ jovial banter.
Back in the recesses of the mind
lies the thoughts that slowly creep out upon us.
“What if? ” “I wonder”
but I wonder what if
the imagination became illegal.
Would I live in a town of fugitive rebels?
Or law abiding citizens?
A dark road w/ one street light.
Allows for the beginning of a dream.
Call it an introduction.
The sweet caress of thoughts.
Call it seduction.
No writing, no expression, or creation.
Call it my life’s conclusion.
But when I shoot the paper with words and the drawing pad with art a point blank range…I will gladly call it execution.
