The Swift Day Part 3 Poem by Marilyn Shepperson

The Swift Day Part 3

'Who are you; why do you spin and sing'
'Your life is this is this thread
And I sing to keep the wheel turning'
He noted how fine was the thread
'True', said she, 'I could break it now
Yet if you will kiss me, just the once
On the lips, as if you meant it
For I would know love as mortals do
Then I would spin you a long, long life
But if you refuse, I'll break the thread
And on this moment, you would die'
'But Lady, I cannot do as you ask
For I'm to be wed on the morrow
And I would be true to my only love'
'Tis only a kiss, nothing more do I ask'
Quothe she and she took up the thread
Between slim fingers as if to snap it.
