The Timing Of His Death Poem by michael spangenberg

The Timing Of His Death

Sting on stage at the French Bataclan rock-venue
In its first Gig after the deadly terror attacks last year
KKK-Facism coming home in the US on 11/8
Trump's triumph became the new 9/11
For 50+% perhaps better part of US population.

It didn't seem that the news could get worse
And then it did. A week that began in hope
Then sagged in disbelief, ended in tears
With the news that Leonard Cohen
Was dead at the age of 82, too
coincidental to be coincidence?

If you live without the comfort of religious belief
It seemed like the universe was playing a cruel joke
By removing a force of light, a 6.5W LED lamp
Just when our world seems so broken, beyond repair
But the crack, as he so memorably taught us
Is how the light gets in, a 50W Halogen bulb
Turning complacency into audacity of hope.
