The Toronto Trilogy Of A Celtic Supporter Poem by Daniel McDonagh

The Toronto Trilogy Of A Celtic Supporter

Many years ago, when we traveled far from home
We set out to find a new life in Toronto,
To our families and our friends, we would one day see again,
As we said goodbye to Belfast and to Glasgow.

We brought our scarf’s and flags, as we sat in Irish bars
As we watched the Celtic from 3,000 miles away,
And for the early morning games when we played the Ibrox men,
We would travel through the coldness of a winter’s day.

At the end of a working week, Midland Avenue we would seek,
We would wear our hoops for every Celtic game,
A coffee from Tim Hortons would set our day in motion.
Into the Celtic Club, where we were always welcomed.

Onto the screen, appeared the bhoys in green,
We stood to applaud and raise a Celtic cheer,
Toronto’s Celtic men, with the kick-off being at ten,
Would have to wait until half-time to get themselves a beer.

The Celtic Song, we will sing, until the day we die,
As our soul will make its way o’er to Paradise,
For now, as we make home, the land of the Maple Leaf,
We will continue to support the Celts, from the supporters clubs each week.
