The Tranquility Of Barns Poem by Marilyn Lott

The Tranquility Of Barns

I think that a barn is so tranquil
It’s just a different kind of place
Sometimes it has bustling activity
Inside it’s animal kind of space

I hope that all of you have had
A time in your life when you
Could just be by yourself inside
A barn so pure and true

For it’s more than the way it looks
It’s the sound of the animals
Bulls and cows and calves as well
And horses filling up the stalls

I know just what you’re thinkin’
It really smells - you want to say
Well, yes, there is an odor
But a big part of the smell is hay

It smells musky and kind of dusty
But at the same time it smells sweet
Just like inside a greenhouse
You smell flowers but also peat

But I think that for the most part
If you listen to farmer’s yarns
You will hear many more stories
About the tranquility of barns!
