The Turning Point Poem by Susan Ash

The Turning Point

Feeling small
Am small
A child
Suddenly alone
In a black space
Know this isn’t right

Secret is out
Nothing has changed
Adults around
Staying outside
Supposed to protect
But not themselves

Monster smiles
Feel afraid
Mind racing
Black space here to stay
Know now
No-one will help

Must
Find ways to survive
Protect them too
Don’t know why
Just know
Idyll of childhood
Has ended.
