The Wall Poem by peggi lennard

The Wall

THE WALL

Swear your righteous anger
In figures six foot high.
Illustrate the sweep of your discontent
In the sweep of your art.
But don't dishonour my diversion
With sleazy body parts,
Or ‘Boz was ere',
Or ‘Robin Hood - we need you',
Or ‘Tracy is a tart'.

Enlighten me with wisdom,
With perceptions of your soul.
Repeat the obvious - yet disregarded,
Like homelessness is odious,
Or poverty is damned.
Tell me that God's one mistake
Was humans.
That I'll understand.

Talk to me, you're not the first
And you won't be the last.
From ancient man to modern,
With flint or chalk,
Or can,
I've seen it all.
I'm the one you'll always turn to.
Your last resort...
The wall.
