The Wallpaper Person Poem by Peggy Chau

The Wallpaper Person

Rating: 4.5

This is originally a shape poem in a human shape but I can't do it in the textbox here. Many people don't get attention from others just because of being so ordinary. For instance, the average students at a school usually don't receive any attention from teachers. This poem was inspired by a university lecturer who told me that teachers should actually attend more to the average students.

Hi!
I'm a man on earth,
you may call me
'wallpaper person',
as the society puts me.

I'm like
a piece of ordinary wallpaper
on a wall.
I’m stuck everywhere
but no one notices me.
I don't mean to hide myself
but no one cares me.

I'm actually an ordinary person
with eyes, ears, nose,
mouth, brain and
feelings!
Well, who cares?
I don't mean to and
I don't want to keep silent.
I do want to make myself obvious.
Yet, I'm like the wallpaper
on your computer screen.
I'm really there
but you don’t give me a look.

Could you spend a split of second
to look at me?
You don’t have to undestand me!
I just want some
minimal attention!

But, as a matter of fact,
I'm used to my dormat life.
Don’t worry,
I’ll be submissive
and I’ll stick to
where I’m told to.
I know I'm such an
ordinary wallpaper person
who doesn't deserve any attention.
It is not my fault,
and it's probably not yours.
I'm destined to be
a wallpaper person.

Thanks for listening
to this unimpressive
and unimportant wallpaper person.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

I understand the message - people can feel inferior as a result. My poem 'Genius' has a similar message in that it is written on behalf of those who feel inferior to clever people but that in the end even clever people are just mortal. Mark
