The War Cry Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

The War Cry

Rating: 5.0

Ashoka the great* did not find joy
The war had ended with peace to enjoy
The boundaries were annexed and secured
The enemy was fully annihilated and routed

Blood and flash was spread everywhere
The war cry was over but no one could dare
To speak even single word in praise
Ashoka* thought “Was it not made chase”?

What have I gained after mass slaughter?
Ashoka was speechless after result of war
Millions died on battle field for no cause
There was dead peace and silence with pause

Why not shun the violence and avoid war?
Ashoka was great visionary who could see far
The consequences had far reaching impact
The war monger and thirsty king was moved with this act

Sanghmitra* was immediately called by emperor
There was immediate ban on declaration of the war
The state was to follow on the principle of equality
Peace was to be the only condition with prosperity for all

Most of the far Asian Countries turned to Buddhist doctrine
The peace message was spread and was considered divine
The king now was turned as religious monk to preach peace gospel
The king, who was war hungry, now had preferred exile

Will we learn lesion form ancient page?
Will the blood and holocaust ever change?
Daily soldiers are killed on the name of system
How are we going to defend our thoughts and pattern?

*Sangmitra… King’s daughter
* Ashoka the great….Medieval mighty ruler

Great Sir! I think we need to reach out to many people, youngsters especially, with poems such as this..they will understand the simple rendition with power-packed thoughts. There is a typo I think...made chase should be mad chase... Warm regards, Supratik Sen, Hyderabad Jan 31,2014
