The Way We Used To Be Poem by Marco Bueninck

The Way We Used To Be

Rating: 4.8

I miss the way you were,
full of life, hungry
waiting what the future
would bring

I miss your first bike ride,
swinging from left to right.
I miss your first day at school.
Brave, but so scared.
I miss the vacation,
camping in a tent,
cooking on the BBQ
I miss your excitement
in our new home.
I miss your tears
when the cat was missing.
I miss the fun you had
building tents in the garden.
I miss how proud you felt
sliding down the slopes.
I miss your first time
on the waterskies

There are so many things I miss.

I regret though
stealing you from friends.
Leaving you, in fear,
at the new school.
Over and over again!
I regret letting you,
scared, sleeping alone
in the outpost.
I regret putting
your life upside down.
I regret not being there for you
when you needed me most.
I regret being angry
when you asked.
I regret not listening
to your dreams.

There are so many things I regret

And now? Only memories!
Of the good times
when we were
the way we used to.
Feeling not angry
but so empty inside.
It's gone, forever!
Feelings never forgotten
on how we used to be.

The reasoning was there,
together forever!
That was my dream!

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Memories of love never pass, they linger, guide, influence long after the source of stimulation is gone. Love leaves enduring traces upon the human heart. It's effect endures because it's spiritual in nature. It's a lovely poem well articulated and nicely penned with insight. Thanks for sharing and do keep it up.
