The Way We Were Poem by Leaking Pen

The Way We Were

Being aware
Of the way we were
Not mine to share
Past blinding glare
Of the way we were
Not mine to share
Barbara stole my line
Memory's empty wine
Last breath from my glass
Funeral farewell mass
I alone lament my past
My play, my act, my cast
Memories bells ringing
Echoes of what if living
Last lover footprints behind
Anchors my heart's mind
Milton souls epic lament
Sorrow's last dent!
****
Why can't love forever last
Like Nature's Sun blast
Spring eyes, summer mouth, and autumn fading smells
Are life evolving casting spells
Instead of Winter hues echoing blues
Answers to questions forming my cues
I settle for one in four
Reliable repeats wring my core
Forevermore
Forevermore
****
I have know many regrets
Life journey pay back earned debts
I have know rejects
Subjected to its effect
Forevermore
Forevermore
End my search end of my trail
Finally I found the wind in my sail
Universal love dwells in my house
And rhythmic heart guides my rouse.
