The Wee Fossil Poem by Mai Murphy Venn

The Wee Fossil

Rating: 5.0

I gazed at this artifact
I gazed and gazed again,
This wee fossil
From long ago -
I know not when
But, as I did
I wondered at what
It might have been,
Of where it had come from,
Or what it may have seen,
Its wings now imbedded
In a rock of solid black,
Now placed upon a table
Analysed for what it lacks.
Immortalize forever -
This insect was to be,
Proof from our past
For the entire world to see.
It could have come
From far away,
Perhaps as far;
As old Pompeii,
Or maybe not
So far as there -
It could have come
From anywhere!
