The Whippoorwill Sigh Poem by Sara Militello

The Whippoorwill Sigh

Rating: 4.5

The Whippoorwill Sigh

Once upon a bright sunny day
there came upon my windowsill
a gentle little whippoorwill.
And quite a tale it would tell!
Once upon a by and by
before it had its plaintive cry
its happiness matched and more than met
each day as it headed toward sunset.
Soon it noticed how uptight
were so many who otherwise might
know instead the bliss of a lover's kiss.
Especially did it quake
to see lovers' hearts break
when bliss gave way to remiss.
Now, so that all lovers may know
the joy love has to show
it sighs so that lovers might not.
