The Worst (Rewritten As A Song) - Poem by Jeff Bresee

There’s something worse than heartache

Something worse than feeling used

There’s something worse than longing

For the time before you knew

About the one who has betrayed you…

And left you in despair

To sit and face the world alone

And wonder as you stare

Into your own eyes

Will you fall apart

And find out what I mean

As you medicate the pain away

And give up on your dreams

Feeling nothing
Nothing inside at all
Feeling nothing
Shattered from the fall

Feeling nothing
Left an empty shell
Feeling Nothing
With life a living hell

Empty heart
Empty home
Empty bed
You’re alone

Empty eyes
Empty stare
Hide a soul
That doesn’t care

Empty time
Empty days
Lie before you
And who pays

Empty life
Empty view…
Do you want this
To be you

There’s something worse than being hated

With no one on your side

There’s something worse than humiliation

And being stripped of pride

There’s something worse than finding out…

The people you call friends

Are not because things have gone wrong

And you’re left in the end

To watch them simply walk away

While leaving all that you have held

So dear in ashes to decay

Will you crawl into your shell

Where you feel nothing
Nothing inside at all
Feeling nothing
Trapped behind the wall

Feeling nothing
No one can reach you there
Feeling Nothing
Wrapped in you despair

Empty heart
Empty home
Empty bed
You’re alone

Empty eyes
Empty stare
Hide a soul
That doesn’t care

Empty time
Empty days
Lie before you
And who pays

Empty life
Empty view…
Do you want this
To be you

Let it go, let it go

Don’t let them take you down

Let it go, let it go

Don’t be their puppet or their clown

Take the word of one who’s been there

Nothing comes from numbing pain

Allow your heart to break and let…

Your tears fall down like rain

For your heart was meant to feel

Both the good things and the bad

If you slip into the numbness

Then the only choice you’ll have

Is feeling nothing
Nothing inside at all
Feeling nothing
Strung out from the fall

Feeling nothing
There’s nothing there to learn
Feeling Nothing
And all that you get in return is

Empty heart
Empty home
Empty bed
You’re alone

Empty eyes
Empty stare
Hide a soul
That doesn’t care

Empty time
Empty days
Lie before you
And who pays

Empty life
Empty view…
Don’t let this
Become you
