The Wrecker Poem by Patrick O'Reilly

The Wrecker

Rating: 5.0

The sea is filled with shipwrecks
Tonight I steal your paychecks
And the sea is full of ice
And there's a shiver in your voice
Help us, help us, we shall drown

The noise as you are pulled under
Is the mast all torn asunder
Your arms reach 'round each other's necks
As water washes on the decks
Help us, help us, we shall drown

All the pretty girls loved courting
And never gave no mind to floating
But when he reaches for your hands
Isn't that a nice romance
To dream about as you go down?

I sing a song of shipwrecks
Tonight I steal your paychecks
And the good ship breaks in half
Your cries drowned out by my laughs
Help us, help us, we shall drown

And when you all float stiff and lifeless
And I am sure that all is hopeless
I will wander down to the shore
To collect what I came her for
Benjamin Franklin never drowns
