The Writer's Block Poem by Andrew Rimmer

The Writer's Block

The block is widely said to be
For the writer a cruel mockery,
A mental block impervious as cut stone
Or perhaps a blocking emotional cyclone;
But never able in defence to wield
The comforting block from a rejection shield.

Sometimes in extremis the writer's block
Can feel as frustrating as a cell block,
Embrace the challenge presented today,
Blocks are for building plots with word play.
Rather to fear the unforgiving clock
Than blood blackened on the executioner's block.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The perennial problem for writers, the irony of the poem having been written with its title. Putting the problem in context is the solution, or taken to its extreme, decapitation.
