Their Lives - Whose Votes! Poem by Angelina Pandian

Their Lives - Whose Votes!

The lives of children, women
Half dead, dying patients in hospitals
The lives of people hunted, haunted
Even in their nightmare dreams
The lives of the multitude of innocents
Caught in the crossfire mingle with
The blood of rebelling dissidents few
Killed and murdered under the name of war
Their cries, wails and screams lie
Buried within the debris of shattered mortar
Splinters of land mines and spraying shell.
The megaphones and microphones cry hoarse
The protests, bandhs and fasts undertook
By one and all fighting for power does not
And can not bring back one single life
One hand pinches the baby
While the other rocks the crib
They talk, banter, rant and rave
Blaming each the other - We all know
Still how many votes will this bring?
They play dice with the lives
These politicians or heartless thieves
Banished from their mind are
Service or benevolent thoughts..
Those, what they count, are only their votes!

What you say is true. We will blame the politicians for such a situation but we forget that a mass is behind these politicians. In my view, a Dharmic person needs no support of the world to spread peace and religion on earth (like Ramana Maharsdhi or Vivekananda or Gandhiji or Christ) but an Adharmic person requires a mass behind him to sustain his leadership - take Hitler or Veerappan. They cannot stand alone without this mass or their weapons. This is the truth. Our mass actually needs a mental upliftment but who actually listens to the voice of Truth? Plato said that a King should be a philosopher but do we pay attention to this fact anywhere in life? We should know how to live and let others live.

hard hitting write - innocence always crushed and at the mercy of the demi-gods of today's democratic times (so-called)

Thats the Indian politics or where the politicians are corrupt. It is their self interest which is important.
