Then And Only Then. Poem by Driss Ezzireg

Then And Only Then.

Rating: 5.0

Your ancestors are my ancestors.
Probably so.
Your dreams are my dreams.
Probably not.
Your beliefs are my beliefs.
I doubt it.
Your land is my land.
Certainly not.
My blood still dampens it.
My children still love it.
They still die for it.
My trees still root it.
They still fruit it.
My stones still protect it.
The poets still chant it.
The prophets still haunt it.
History still proves it.
I still belong to it.
If you still want it
You must belong to it.
The only way for it.
Your heart must love it.
Truly, honestly love it.
With its true people in it.
The lovable, peaceful people in it.
And then and only then
My home will be your home,
My bread will be your bread,
My dreams will be your dreams,
And my heart will be open
It will be open anew
For the true love of you.
