There Is A Despair So Great Poem by Shalom Freedman

There Is A Despair So Great

No one can define it-
It is not under the ground
But under under the ground
And it has no ground too-

These are just words
Another inept metaphor won’t help-

The Despair says simply
That this horror will never end
And that there is no possible way out-

And even that of course
Is just words playing with themselves
That cannot touch the bottomless feeling
Which despises these words also-
