These Things And More Poem by Leria Hawkins

These Things And More

These Things And More
Date: July 9,2015

I loved with a love not meant to be
I’ve swam in a wild and relentless sea
I lingered long to taste the fruit
I’m bound by strings of the family root
I lay down in ashes of a burning past
I’ve lived with the scars of broken glass
I’m stained by the sin that never fades
I held too close, the razor blade
I’ve dreamed with hope that never dies
I carry the weight of a thousand lies
I’ve drowned in acid of a faithless pledge
I chanced to walk a slippery ledge
All these things, I did or do
All these things, because of you
