These Vile Affections Poem by Oyekake Satty (O S) Joshua

These Vile Affections

Lord cause me to know your ways
Prod and enable me to do your will
That my hand may be swift for you
That Your Spirit may spur my heart
To work for You without murmuring
My own efforts have not served you
Willpower and promises have failed
Incite me by your Spirit to work alight
Arouse me by your grace to live aright

Truly, within me, dwells nothing good
I am vile and evil as any unregenerate
And as depraved as the next unsaved
Provoked, same sinful affections avail
With brutish fervor and ferocity alike
At my worst, my heart is as depraved
The image within a shudder to behold
At my best, I am not better than most.
Apart from you, I’m a scheming sinner
Embolden me to live for you each day
With sincere gratitude and utmost honor
