They Are Like The Weeds Of The Garden Poem by Francis Duggan

They Are Like The Weeds Of The Garden

Some people use god as a smokescreen in their lust for money and power
They are like the weeds of the garden that stifle the beautiful flower
You find them in Governments and big Bureaucracies they are into people control
The light that shines in every good person cannot penetrate to their soul
To the god that they laud in their speeches by their actions scant respect they do pay
Their god surely them has forsaken since they mock god when to god they do pray,
They only wish to control people and money to them is their true god
And partly because of them we have poor people and the forsaken and the downtrod,
Tis they run Multinational Corporations and in their achievements they take pride
And in part thanks to them between the haves and the have nots the social gap keeps growing wide
That thousands of their fellow citizens are homeless does not seem to worry them at all
They may be wealthy and influential but their souls are darkened and small,
They only use their god as a smokescreen since they see the social divide as quite fair
And sad to think thousands grow poorer for each newly proclaimed millionaire.
