They Fear

They stop,
stop and hear,
and hear fear,
hear fear
is near.

They rush,
rush to reach,
to reach each,
reach each
to teach.

Fear—
is there.
Fear—
is nearby.

Now—
it's here.
Now—
it's inside.

The fear—
was too much
too fast.
The fear—
has taken over
at last.

They failed.

Failed
to reach;
failed
to teach.

Fear—

has won.
