They Think They Know Poem by Tim Olson

They Think They Know

you learn your greatest fear,
you want others to hear,
you don't want others told,
reactions may be cold,
so you say goodbye,
keep the secrets til you die,
you hold these things inside,
feel as though you've lied,
you realize you start to hide,
it's been everyday you've cried,
you tell yourself you've tried,
all the while putting truth aside,
you begin to act,
to protect your pride,
but you know it's fact,
that within, you've died,
always a lie, you'll know,
buried inside, it'll never show,
so the feeling builds, it grows,
your heart continues to close,
someone comes along,
tells you you're wrong,
they think they know,
those things that you don't show,
you'll never know for sure,
you don't feel secure,
telling them your secrets,
never seeing where it gets,
you're glad they tried,
the feeling will subside,
but not before it ends,
will you tell your friends,
they think they know,
they think they know
