Thin Line Poem by Trinity Blaire Celestine

Thin Line

When I was a child,
I used to think
that making decisions
is plain and simple.

That It's either white or black,
hot or cold,
yin or yang,
yes or no.

I used to think
that there are only two sides
of every story.
And that you can always choose one
over another.

But as the years went by,
I became more and more familiar
with the many gray areas of life.

It has happened countless of times before,
When I get caught up in between,
When I get confused as to what to choose.

I have learned that in making choices,
It's not always about what you want or need or love.
It's also about weighing the consequences.
Like, asking yourself which is more important:
Not wanting to hurt others?
Or not wanting to hurt yourself?

It's not easy sometimes.
You decide on one, but you forego the other.
And how do you know if you've chosen right
If you've given away that 'other'.

And what more, you can never
go back.

Mistakes are made. Regrets accumulate.
Hearts are broken.

But this is life.
Even though only a thin line
is separating the light from the dark,
Breathe. Feel. Do.
You will have to make a choice everytime.
