Think Before You Speak

Be wary child before a storm
What wisdom has to tell
From foolish thoughts may Satan form
A step to darkest hell

How swift your words may cause a fall
May danger someone’s life
May hinder some who hear my call
And lead to needless strife

Your tongue could turn a brother’s mind
Like rudders ships at sea
Can lead astray make neighbours blind
And hinder serving me

Think well, think true, then think again
Before a word you speak
Before you cause your brother pain
Or make another weak

Think as a groom think of your bride
Think of the love you’d share
Think of a room with Christ inside
And how you’d speak in there

Think of your tongue is like a sword
Or knife behind a veil
Speak as you would before Your Lord
Wary to end in jail

Speak love dear child and speak to heal
Consider what you say
That Light one day will all reveal
That’s said in any Way

Be strong my child be no one’s fool
Let wisdom be your guide
In Jesus’ hand become a tool
Before life’s last divide
