This Day Poem by Barry Van Allen

This Day

This day is not a happy one,
like others we have known,
this day has not been good to us,
we are separate and alone.

On past mornings we were cold,
still being warm within our hearts,
it somehow seems impossible,
to be back at the start.

I guess there's not much more to say,
yet, so much should be said,
it hurts to say we lost our way,
so many signposts, never read.

Our dreams left with the wind,
and our love with passing clouds,
as birds we flew, and never knew,
that we were going to hit the ground.

My life is not a faultless one,
indeed, I'm much to blame,
for where the days have taken us,
and yet somehow, not ashamed.

In thinking back on yesterday,
I wonder, is it true?
That I have been so fortunate,
to share ' in love ' with you?

I know I made you happy once,
once I was happy too,
but in the game, the changes came,
and stole the love we knew.

This day my eyes see sorrow,
and my heart just knows the loss,
can something in tomorrow,
ever justify this cost?

Beautiful, Barry. Beautiful. Not at all meaning to pry, but it does sound like you are going through a divorce. Keep writing, to get it all out. Have you seen mine, yet? I write about abandonment and loss, too. 'Out of the mouth, the heart speaks, ' so, yes, keep on writing, Barry. It is very cathartic. Myself, I was adopted at 8 weeks of life, and never did meet my 'real' father, so the pain of that has kind of lasted my whole lifetiime, especially with my turning 36 years old in 5 days, now. It hurts I have never even met him; I have met my 'real' mother, but that's another 'story' I could well write about, as well. Much looking forward to seeing many more of your poems! Take care and keep on getting it out. Liz
