This Day, A Priceless Gift Poem by Ruby Skaggs

This Day, A Priceless Gift

Lord, help me perform my best each day;
Each day, a priceless gift from you.
If I slacken, and fleeting moments waste away
Prompt me, for you, some special task to do.

I am not assured of another day
The sun may never shine again,
Or my thinking mind could fade away,
Which never more could I attain.

When to the nursing home I go
And see how folks active minds have gone,
I realize that we never know
How our lives may change before the dawn.

O how we need to love those special ones,
Visit them, and show that we care
They want to be loved, they feel so alone
Spending all day in an old wheel chair

They always seem to live in the past,
Days and dates will not come to mind,
Or their children's names will not come fast;
But their hearts are glad when folks are kind.

O help us Father everyday
To use our time in pleasing you
To read the Word, and watch and pray
While our stable minds can work for you.

Remind us each day to have a smile
And let our words be always kind
And choose only doing things worthwhile
With neighborly love always in mind.
