This Is How It Works Poem by Zena Blank

This Is How It Works

Rating: 5.0

How is it
How in the name of this earth
How is it that when we need someone
Those closest to us
The ones who we thought wouldn't let us fall
They turn their backs to you
Shrug you a cold shoulder
Watch you wither
Throw you off the cliff
after telling you not to jump
Kick you when you're down
Yet, still come crying to you
In their times of need
And you help them
Even after they betrayed you
Why? This is illogical, insane even
You are insane
Mentally unstable
Still clinging to the hope
A glimmer of faint light
That they might stop hurting you
Realize what they are doing
You hope that they'll 360
Try to help you
Help you love life again
Pull you out of this hole you are in
So deep and black
You are afraid no one will save you
From yourself
And in the end
We are all alone
So why would someone save you?
You know you are worthless
Everyone's second choice
They've told you that your whole life
No one wants to save you.
You are alone.
