This Is My Religion Poem by Paula Glynn

This Is My Religion

I believe in many things,
But most of all I believe in myself,
I know that I live out this karma,
Ready to be freed from that place of pain,
I know I have to guide myself through,
And do anything I have to do,
For I am my own religion,
I have common sense,
As well as wisdom,
Because I am not stupid,
I see my path clearly,
And chop down those branches and thorns,
That get in my way,
Because nothing stops me getting what I want,
I look after number one and people know it,
And if I don't get something,
It is because I didn't want it.
I see clearly now the sun is shining,
I have trust in the blue sky,
I reach out towards the heavens,
Knowing I can fly,
Because I am not earth bound,
Even though the earth is my mother,
And I don't need another,
I just need myself to go wherever I wish,
And the rose upon the grave I will kiss,
But it doesn't matter if no one will understand,
As I go all out to get all I want because I can,
And I travel this world, a bag on my back,
And of my sights, I don't lose track,
For freedom within myself is my religion,
But I don't hold back my emotions,
And I will be your friend, but don't betray me,
For this soul has found prayer,
And a knowledge of the world so deep.
