This New Age Smiles On Us Poem by Obed dela Cruz

This New Age Smiles On Us

(The first verse of the poem was written on December 31,2009 but the second up to the last verse of the poem was written on January 1,2010)

There was an age where thinkers were confused.
They argued on what theories must be used.
With the pride of being a great thinker
Their biases are only what they share
But enough of that, because this new age smiles on us!

There was an age where wars were used to rule.
The world was bloody and it was so cruel.
With the great desire to be the earth’s king
Rulers took lives but now they own nothing.
But enough of that, because this new age smiles on us!

There was an age of abusing power
Where people thought it will last forever.
The wrong view of responsibility
Made rulers use their thrones without pity.
But enough of that, because this new age smiles on us!

There was an age of brutal voyages
Where people secure and possess riches.
So many desired to own lands and gold
And they made the world so rich and so old.
But enough of that, because this new age smiles on us!

There was an age were world wars were present.
You can hear people in pain they lament.
With a wrong view of what’s right, they made wars.
The people were scared of deadly forces.
But enough of that, because this new age smiles on us!

There was an age where people were not wise.
They don’t care even if it brings them their demise.
Their foolish philosophies were famous
And it made the world’s problems numerous.
But enough of that, because this new age smiles on us!

Today, we embrace a new smiling age.
It’s not anymore about wars and rage.
But it’s about unity, love, and care.
To each other, peace and blessings we’ll share.
Let this age and ages to come keep on smiling on us!
