Those Who Drowned Poem by Gert Strydom

Those Who Drowned

With their fists hammering in desperation on the ark
they would give anything to be inside,
while in despair they cried and shouted
to the people in that big sheltered room.
were the people outside mad with fear
while they were expelled by themselves?
When the first rain came suddenly
were everyone scared of the God of the universe?
Did there mockery die down
for the big old ark and the people and animals inside?
Maybe some were somewhat lonely
but not unknown to Noah.
Were Soldiers scared in the guard room
at daylight with lightning bolt upon lightning bolt falling?
