Though History Sees It In A Different Way Poem by Francis Duggan

Though History Sees It In A Different Way

We hear and read of the savagery of the lion and the shark
Yet men crucified Jesus and burnt to death Joan of Arc
But carnivore predators to survive do need lots of meat
And us humans to them are just something to eat,
When us humans eat animals and fish we see that as okay
I am not being critical here as I too am this way
Because of my eating habits fish and birds and animals die
If I told you otherwise that would be a lie
You hear people say that the crocodile has death in it's smile
But all wild born creatures do not know of guile
To eat for to live does not come from evil intent
And a predator never does abstain from meat for lent
Though history sees it in a different way
Those who crucified Jesus and burnt to death Joan of Arc thought that was okay.
