Three Friends Poem by Barry Van Allen

Three Friends

Rating: 5.0

Early in the morning,
almost Six - O'clock,
I'll haul my butt from bed,
and meet them at the dock.

Goin' fishin' in the morning,
I hope to catch a mess,
' probably won't, but that's O.K.,
I'll know I did my best.

Me and Joe, and Dan,
couldn't catch a thing,
but, today it will be different,
... do I hear the same bell ringing?

I have got the fancy pole ,
I have got the fancy reel,
but all the plugs and spinners,
will never take the place of ' feel '.

It really doesn't matter,
' cause we just like the peace,
that comes in early morning,
... three friends drifting free.

I can remember a few years ago when I rented a cottage on a lake. Through the early morning hours, there was always a boat on the lake with a lone fisherman...the whole picture was of contentment and calm, with the call of the loon and birds twittering in the background...lovely! Hugs, Dee
