Three Prisons Poem by Udaya R. Tennakoon

Three Prisons

I was caught, gone and detained
In the prison state human made
Locked hands freedom inside talked
Branded tattoo in the skin subsided

A surrounded big wall, inside dreary cells
Army, police and guards keep watch nails
On the hut, at the gate, near the cells
The fence of encroached freedom bells

State thought what I have not thought
I thought what state has not thought
You thought that, I was cut and built
I could open a door from which it thought

Under the law, taken to the court
Before the justice, I was revealed
I was mocked, despised and released
To the second prison, the life of part

No walls made closed are visible
Around me, following, it’s invisible
Built Walls and cells are incredible
Eyes of gestures are not reliable

Imprisoned me again re- imprisoned
Released me again re- released
Gruesome surround eye- blind
Vicious- circle human made never- end

Open the doors and closed
Day and the night it changed
I myself released and eyes closed
Opened the door to the prison third

State inside, prison in it made
Army, police and guards live in me
Law and justice patrol from heart to mind
When my belly wants to break the rule

Everything is finally everyone granted
A released man inside prison planted
From the space your bare eye - so called
A tiny hole of trust in neighbors searched
