Time It Is Catching Up On Him Poem by Francis Duggan

Time It Is Catching Up On Him

Time it is catching up on him his best days in the distant past
Once he could dance without tiring once he could run very fast
A shadow of the man he once was his life is in it's late Fall
The clock on our lives always ticking old age it comes to us all
In his prime in the mid to late fifties going back many decades ago
Then the fastest young man in his suburb his fastest nowadays is quite slow
Those who claim old age is a punishment one must say have not got it wrong
The fastest old man is a slow man and the strongest old man is not strong
Old father time takes toll on the greatest and for anyone does not wait
We are like the flowers of the garden on us there is a use by date
He walks in a very slow shuffle his hair it is silvery gray
He was a young man of the fifties and he has seen a far better day
A shadow of the man he once was the years on him clearly do show
The fastest young man in the suburb going back some five decades ago.
