Time To Grow Poem by George Ahaneku

Time To Grow

If I had the power to choose
Would I wedger a coin to lose
Would a felon rob and leave us clues
Which would lead him to the hang-man’s noose?
To ascend the stairs without a rail
A lifeless body to blaze the trail
No ‘Trojan Horse’ with a wooden tail
Or sacred chalice behind the veil

If I could I would never lose
A drop of oil from a jar or cruise
Have enough water in every pale
Upon my return friends and kin will hail
If wishes were Horses beggars would ride
Yet a pauper has his pride
Now I have the power to soar
As opposed to a Lion’s roar

Even the discernment to know
The time to reap and time to sow
If you ask me now I’ll say I know
That I am enterprise and it’s my time to grow-

Selah.
