Time To Say Goodbye Poem by Sarah Child

Time To Say Goodbye

The battle is over, the war has been won,
The wounded have been healed, the dead buried,
Buildings have been rebuilt, homes reclaimed,
The lost have been mourned, the victory celebrated,
But now it is time to say goodbye.

The war brought us together, but victory is tearing us apart,
Your face haunts my dreams, your voice echoes in my head,
The touch of your lips clings on mine, the smell of your skin lingers in my nose,
With one last kiss…
It is time to say goodbye.

The earth is freshly turned, the flowers cut,
Family, friends and old enemies gather,
Grudges and hurt feelings long forgotten,
A sad melody drifts in the wind, rain falls steadily from the grey sky,
With on last farewell…
It is time to say goodbye.
