Timely Friend Poem by Luz Hanaii

Timely Friend

Rating: 5.0

Dressed in multicolor clown's outfit,
wild hair and an iridescent smile, death arrives,
like an unwelcome guest at his door,
clumsy, drunk prankster who brings no joy,
mockingly smiling her knowing grin.

He lies in pain, wishing to share one last time,
life's accomplishments, titles, conquests, trips,
mergers and acquisitions...yet no one is there
to listen, cry or even hold his hand.
No gold or property can bail him from this fate.

With fear, wide stare, he glares into her deep blank eyes,
trying to find a sign of emotion there,
then sadly notices her attire, no time to ask,
explain or plea... a cold touch upon his forehead,
a final sigh and a last regret for human company.

Glancing at her diamond rimmed, digit free wrist watch
she suddenly realizes, it's time to wear the special evening gown,
of white clouds, diamonds and pearls, to comb her hair
and wipe that iridescent smile from her face.

Just down the hallway, four doors away, lays a child,
she's just turned ten. Budding rose, pure and dear...
birthday wishes, get well cards, tiny space laced with flowers,
pink balloons, little stuff animals guard her room.
Deep blue eyes and once blond hair, now lays quiet in her bed.
Hooked to machines and full of tubes,
she lingers painfully day by day. At her side,
teared eyed mother holds her hand, praying for a prompt release
to her dying child's pain.

With deep blue eyes an a gentle smile
she greets the white angel in formal attire.
There is no fear, just great aw and fascination
over the white clouds, diamonds and pearls.
Her mother sees the smile, outward stare
and radiance in her child's face.
She hears her sigh and feels the small hand
give a last grip as if to say good bye.

A sad and lonely death for one. Then death of a child so hard to bare being released from pain. Heartfelt words.

Aloha Luz Hanaii... You, have been busy! And beautifully so too... Death in the feminine... quite the outlook... reasonable though, for the females have had a hold on mourning since the first death... not much is remembered about the details of that affair... however; you have a hold of some creative and telling descriptive prose herein... Cheers... All of the best from this life, to you, and all of your relations... Michaelw1two

Wow... What a wonderfully woven story. Beautiful and sad, with lessons of love and grief. I pity the man who 'has it all'. Great write!
