To Escape The Masquerade Poem by Sasha Varney

To Escape The Masquerade

I look down at my hands
And thought to myself, “No one understands
The pain I went through,
The tears I’ve cried at night; no one knew
How hard it was to put on a mask everyday
And be an actress on the stage
To say the lines I have to say”
I see the stars out each night,
And wish upon them with all my might
That I could be a star one day
And escape the painful masquerade.
The stars float beautifully in the sky,
like candles held high.
