To Forgive Poem by Dan Medina

To Forgive

What does it mean to forgive?
Is it a minute saying adjoined with a simple phrase?
Or a profound ambition deeply rooted within this heart?

For it takes so many forms.
It is a thought, a goal, a journey, a place
lost in time and only found when truly wanted.

Because it is this internal hatred
and anger which binds us to this humanity,
but it is the love found to let go which defines this person.
To forgive is to love, and to love is to be human.

To give freedom to these troubles,
and to inspire a new hope once deemed
impossible, improbable, illogical.

Yet no matter what cold storm ensues,
or heated malediction strikes this being,
or unseen thorn pricks this soul,
it is this love which keeps us going.

No matter what lines drawn on a map,
or colors on skin,
or traditions deemed so foreign,
This forgiveness draws us together in a common longing
to love without fear, to dream without fail,
and to forgive without hate in
This I. This You. This We.
This Humanity....
